SMS nonwoven fabric is a three-layer material for medical clothing, for example, protective gowns, medical suits, or surgical clothing. In addition, it is also used to produce vacuum cleaner bags, bags for footwear products, diapers, protective masks, and other personal care products.

This material is made of three layers of nonwovens pressed together with the ultrasonic method:

• S  outer layer - polypropylene nonwoven fabric produced in the Spunbond technology
• M inner layer - filtering polypropylene nonwoven fabric produced in the Meltblown technology
• S  outer layer - polypropylene nonwoven fabric produced in the Spunbond technology

Such a combination provides the nonwoven fabric with very good filtering properties and constitutes a microbiological barrier against bacteria and viruses. The SMS fleece retains water molecules while remaining breathable. As a result, the elements of protective clothing sewn from it are comfortable and ensure safety against external factors.

Application

One of the basic (but not the only) applications of SMS polypropylene nonwoven fabric is medicine, specifically the clothing and other accessories produced for it (surgical curtains, covers for surgical instruments, etc.). It is used for sewing such items of clothing as protective suits, surgical clothes, doctor's gowns, face masks, etc.

Important advantages of this nonwoven fabric, so desired in medicine, are the high percentage of BFE, above 95%. This means that the material's resistance to the penetration of bacteria and viruses is very high.
