Properties
PTFE sheets (Teflon sheets) - are a construction material with remarkable thermal and chemical properties. They are used in the most demanding applications where other plastics do not work due to temperature or aggressive chemicals. The most important properties of PTFE teflon sheets are:
Working temperature range from -170°C to 260°C
High chemical resistance to most known chemicals
Very good sliding properties
Very low coefficient of friction
Low liquid absorption
Low relative electric permeability
Possibility of contact with food and drinking water
Non-flammable material
High thermal expansion
Non-stick surface
PTFE sheets are very easy to work with. On the one hand, this is their advantage, and on the other hand, it is a disadvantage of this material, because it has low mechanical resistance. Despite its high density and weight, PTFE is a soft material that is not resistant to impacts and work with very high loads.
Various types of admixtures are used to enhance the mechanical properties of PTFE sheets, for example with glass fibers, graphite, carbon or molybdenum disulphide.
Application
PTFE sheets are used in many industries, for example in the construction of chemical apparatus, machine construction, transport technology, in the production of pumps and fittings, electronics, electrical engineering, in laser technology, exhaust gas treatment, cryotechnics, filtration technology and others.
- The most common parts of PTFE sheets are:
gaskets and seals (e.g. for a tractor, combine harvester or sprayers)
guideway
floor coverings
dispensers for aggressive chemicals
sliding elements
parts for contact with food and clean water
conveyor rollers
parts of laboratory apparatus
slides and flat bars
